Hamilton County Interim Superintendent Kirk Kelly announced this morning that the principals at The Howard School and Red Bank High School are the district's new assistant superintendents.
Justin Robertson from Red Bank is the district's new assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction, and Zac Brown from Howard is the new assistant superintendent of operations. Both positions report to Jill Levine, who was recently named the district's Chief Academic Officer.
"Both [Brown] and [Robertson] bring a wealth of experience in education, a proven track record of success and an enthusiasm for moving our district forward," said Kelly in a statement. "I am confident that they will provide strong support to teachers and administrators throughout our district."
Before taking over as principal at Howard, Brown served as the principal at East Ridge High School and began his teaching career as a high school math teacher and wrestling coach at Rhea County High School.
"I truly believe that we have talented teachers and administrators in this district," Brown said in a statement. "We can bring that talent together as a team to move the district forward in bold and creative ways."
Robertson has served as an elementary, middle and high school principal, as he worked at Brown Middle School and Lookout Valley Elementary, and an assistant principal at Normal Park Museum Magnet before starting at Red Bank High.
"I am passionate about improving the educational opportunities for all students and firmly believe that as a community we can build a top tier public school system in Chattanooga," Robertson said in a statement. "I am humbled by this opportunity and look forward to supporting principals, teachers, and students throughout Hamilton County."
Last month, Kelly announced when hiring Levine that he planned to restructure the district's central office. He told the board the changes would be cost-neutral, as he was eliminating the assistant superintendent of innovation and assistant superintendent of accountability and testing positions.
In addition to adding Levine as an associate superintendent, Kelly also split the responsibilities of the assistant superintendent of education and leadership support into two positions, which Brown and Robertson will fill.
Robert Sharpe, who was the former assistant superintendent of education and leadership support, is now the director of secondary school operations.
Keri Randolph, who was hired last year to the be assistant superintendent of innovations, is now the district's director of technology.
Kelly also announced that Becky Coleman will be the director of pre-K programs, and Aimee Randolph is the new coordinator of teacher recruitment.
Additional administrative assignments, including principal and assistant principal assignments are expected to be announced Friday.
