Chattanooga firefighters extinguished a fast-moving brush fire late this afternoon that threatened the Amberleigh Ridge Apartments near Interstate 75 and East Brainerd Road, according to a fire department news release.

The blaze scorched about half an acre, but no one was injured and no buildings damaged, officials said. Multiple fire companies fought the flames.

Chattanooga Fire Department spokesman Bruce Garner said the fire was traced to two boys, ages 9 and 10, who set an old camping chair on fire with a couple of cigarette lighters, then panicked and ran away when the fire spread.

Officials said charges against the juveniles are pending.
