The Hamilton County Department of Education announced today numerous new assistant principal appointments across the county.

"Strong leadership teams in every school are crucial to success, and assistant principals are a critical factor in this equation," said interim Superintendent Kirk Kelly in a statement. "We are confident that these teams will accelerate student learning throughout our district."

In the wake of the rape of an Ooltewah High School freshman, allegedly by three of his basketball teammates in December, the school's Principal Jim Jarvis has been under scrutiny. He was replaced at his post at Ooltewah yesterday by Signal Mountain Middle/High Principal Robin Copp.

Today's announcement confirms that Jarvis is assigned to be an assistant principal at East Hamilton Middle/High School.

Former East Hamilton Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Brad Jackson will be moving to Ooltewah High School to serve as an assistant principal. Lesa Johnson, who previously worked in the district's human resource department as the recruitment coordinator, will also be an assistant principal at Ooltewah.

Bryan Stewart, former principal of East Brainerd Elementary is moving to the role of Assistant Principal at Bess T. Shepherd Elementary.
