One man has been rescued from the Pocket Wilderness after being impaled in the leg by a branch while hiking.

According to a press release, the man had been camping on the trail with friends. While gathering firewood, he tripped and fell on a branch which stabbed his thigh.

Since it was nighttime, the group waited to hike out of the woods to call for help, but the man wasn't able to walk.

Some of the group started walking the trail to get a cell signal to call for help and at 11 a.m. the Mowbray Volunteer Fire Department, Sequoyah Volunteer Fire Department and Chattanooga Hamilton County Rescue responded.

Six hours later, the man was transported by Hamilton County EMS to Erlanger for treatment.
