A large hole has developed in the Interstate 24 eastbound bridge over Chestnut Street in Chattanooga, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
"The hole is such that we are having to close a lane to protect traffic. This will cause a significant backup in traffic, especially given the holiday," TDOT spokeswoman said in an email.
Flynn said this is the same bridge but a different location where the agency recently did an emergency repair.
She said the entire bridge deck is scheduled to be replaced later this year.
"In the meantime our Bridge Repair group will be looking to see if they can do a temporary fix sufficient to reopen the lane," Flynn said.
