A Signal Mountain fire grew to 65 acres by Sunday afternoon as state parks and forestry personnel worked to contain it.

By dusk, a plane from the U.S. Forestry Service was expected to drop fire retardant over the area of the fire not under control, according to a news release from Hamilton County Emergency Management.

The fire started Saturday in the Flipper Bend area of the mountain.

No structures are considered endangered by the fire, which is expected to burn for several days under the monitoring of state forestry officials.
