An adult movie theater suffered "significant smoke and water damage" after a Monday evening fire, according the Chattanooga Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to a fire at the Cinema One Theater and Adult Book Store, on the 4100 block of Rossville Boulevard, shortly after 6 p.m., department spokesman Bruce Garner said in a news release.

Although the business was occupied when the fire was discovered, no one was injured, Garner said.

At the scene, Battalion Chief Rick Boatwright said customers reported hearing "a loud boom" accompanied by the smell of smoke.

Eight fire companies responded to the incident and had the blaze under control within 15 minutes from the time it was reported, Boatwright said. When firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy smoke outside the building and aggressively fought an interior blaze.

Police rerouted Rossville Boulevard traffic during the incident, opening the road when a majority of the firefighting vehicles departed after 7:10 p.m.

No dollar estimate was available concerning fire-related damages.

Garner said the fire is under investigation.
