There have been no arrests or suspects named in the July double slaying of a Bledsoe County couple whose bodies were found at their home this summer.

At about 6 p.m. CDT on July 5, a passerby spotted a man's body in the yard of a home on Brock Hollow Road and alerted police.

That man was 41-year-old James Henry Songer. He had been shot once in the chest. Inside the home, 49-year-old Robbin Juanita Martin's body was found with multiple gunshot wounds, according to officials.

Twelfth Judicial District Attorney General Mike Taylor said early on that investigators had a couple of people of interest, but little has changed since then, Taylor said Friday. Those people have neither been upgraded to suspects nor cleared of wrongdoing, he said.

No motive has been established, he said, and authorities aren't willing to talk about the kind of firearm used in the slayings.

The fatal shots were fired "apparently from the same type of weapon but that's not been established conclusively," Taylor said.

As the investigation rolls into its fifth month, authorities are looking for a break.

"It's one of those cases that apparently is going to take a while to develop," Taylor said. "Sometimes in a case you get a break very quickly and sometimes it takes long, investigative work."

TBI officials had little to add Friday.

"This still remains an active and ongoing investigation, so we're not able to speak to the specific questions," spokeswoman Susan Niland said via email. "Special agents continue to pursue leads and gather information."

Niland asked that anyone who might have information about this crime to contact investigators at 1-800-TBI-FIND.
