The identities of four people killed Saturday in a crash on Interstate 24 in Coffee County and another killed Sunday in Grundy County have still not been released as Tennessee Highway Patrol officials seek out their next of kin.

THP spokesman Lt. John Harmon said the vehicle accident in Coffee County involved in the single car crash was a 1986 Toyota Celica bearing a Tennessee license plate.

The Toyota was traveling eastbound on I-24 "at a high rate of speed" when the driver attempted to change lanes and lost control," Harmon stated Monday in an email about the accident.

The Toyota left the right side of the road on the eastbound side of the interstate near the 107 mile marker and struck a tree killing all four occupants in the vehicle, Harmon said.

On Sunday, THP officers investigated another fatal accident that killed one person who also has not been identified by authorities.

That accident happened on State Route 106 near State Route 56 and involved one vehicle and one occupant, Harmon said.

That accident is still the subject of an active investigation, the trooper said.
