The victim, 63-year-old Jerry Jones had apparently run out of gas and was attempting to cross the highway around 8:20 p.m. when he was hit by a car on the North Dalton Bypass, according to a news release from the Dalton Police Department. Jones' van was parked on the righthand shoulder of the road. He was apparently crossing the highway northbound toward a gas station when he was hit by a Ford Focus driven by 37-year old Kimberly Young in the lefthand eastbound lane.
