A wildfire has consumed more than 300 acres in the Martha's Falls and County Road 861 area south of Highway 35.

Multiple crews are combating the wildfire with Air Tanker drops and helicopter drops while Alabama Forestry Commission bulldozers are assisting the fire teams.

Alabama Highway 35 near Little River Canyon National Preserve reopened to traffic this afternoon, though smoke from a wildfire still is crossing the road, a news release states.

The National Park Service is asking motorists to drive with their headlights on, use caution and go slowly, according to the release from park ranger Larry Beane. Fire vehicles are patrolling the area, though fire crews have successfully managed the fire line along the highway.

The road was closed from the Little River Falls (Alabama Highway 176) area to Blanche (Alabama Highway 273).
