THOMASTON, Ga. - A couple held their wedding ceremony in a Georgia hospital room so the bride's dying father could watch his daughter say her vows.

WSB-TV reports that Candice Hammonds and Thomas Burkett had their wedding Wednesday beside her father's hospital bed at Upson Regional Medical Center in Thomaston.

The couple planned to marry in October. They quickly moved up their plans after learning the bride's father, Steve Hammonds, wasn't expected to live much longer.

Family, friends and hospital staff helped the couple pull off a ceremony within 24 hours.

"I don't think I have ever experienced so much love and emotion in one room," photographer Julie York Schandolph told the station.

Teresa Hammonds told the station that the doctor suspended Steve Hammonds' sedation to allow him to be alert during the ceremony. When the pastor asked who gives the bride in marriage, he raised his hand.

"It was the last gift he could give his little girl," Teresa Hammonds told the station.

Steve Hammonds passed away Saturday.
