A former star Bradley County and UTC wrestler was shot to death Friday during a fight in Marion County.

A resident in the 12000 block of Mullens Cove Road told investigators he saw a man and woman he didn't know fighting on his property.

When the homeowner confronted them the man, later identified as Matthew L. Keller, 33, of Chattanooga, stopped fighting with his girlfriend and attacked the homeowner, according to a news release from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. The homeowner fatally shot Keller.

The woman, Ashley Boss, 24, was jailed on charges of public intoxication, trespassing and other charges.

At Bradley Central, Matt Keller was a four-time state champion. He placed fourth in the NCAA Tournament as a senior at UTC, which made him an NCAA All-America wrestler, according to records.

His former Bradley County coach, Steve Logsdon, told the Times Free Press in 2009 his protege was "one of the toughtest, most driven and hard-nosed kids I ever coached," but also said he had "a tendency to push the envelope, and he had difficulty sometimes making the right decision."

A Facebook tribute page called Keller Time said Keller was an instructor at The Factory at East Ridge. One friend posted, "You deserve the peace you were trying to find in this life. So sad."
