A naked man was arrested late Friday morning after driving the wrong way on Highway 111 in Hamilton County and causing a crash.

The man, Dennis Nixon, also told an officer he loved her and tried to give her a kiss.

Nixon admitted to taking acid and said that God gave him the acid because God wanted him to be free, according to a news release from the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

However, the charges that Nixon gathered during the incident indicate that he might not be free for a while.

Nixon is facing three charges of aggravated assault and charges of felony reckless endangerment, driving under the influence, felony vandalism, driving the wrong way and indecent exposure.

Deputies first responded around 11:40 a.m. to numerous reports of a vehicle driving erratically on Highway 111.

Authorities were told the driver at one point had stopped his silver 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer and gotten out naked.

Three witnesses said Nixon swerved into traffic going the wrong way and matched their lane changes as their vehicles neared each other. He is suspected of driving at speeds of over 90 miles per hour.

His vehicle collided with Regina Carson's 2008 Dodge Avenger. Carson declined to be taken to a hospital.

"When deputies arrived on scene, Nixon was being restrained by numerous bystanders," the news release said. "A deputy on scene stated Nixon was still unclothed and making statements about his father and God."

Once Nixon was cleared by emergency medical personnel, he then expressed his romantic interest in the deputy and admitted to consuming acid.
