Man killed in boating accident on Sunday

A boating accident left one man dead on Sunday, according to Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency officials.

The incident occurred around 6:15 p.m. near Harrison Bay Road.

The victim, 48-year-old Wallace 'Neal' Gibson III from Lookout Mountain, was hit by a ski boat propeller after getting into the water at Chickamauga Lake.

Gibson was on the boat with three other people "having a good time" while engaging in wake boarding, skiing or some other rope activity behind the boat, according to TWRA Communications Manager Doug Markham.

Markham said officials believe Gibson did not fall off the boat, but they are investigating to find out what happened.

Blood samples have been taken from the victim and the operator of the boat, and no evidence of alcohol has been found. No charges will be filed at this time.
