Hamilton County Sheriff's Office investigators worked Monday to retrieve a body from the Tennessee River off Suck Creek Road.

The sheriff's office was called to the scene after the body was discovered around 8 a.m., spokesman Matt Lea said.

An investigation is underway to determine the identity of the body and how it ended up in the river, which is known for its fast current near where the body was discovered.

Bob Davis, 70, who lives nearby, said it must have reached the shore recently.

"People were working over there the other day, and even yesterday," he said. "That body wasn't there then."

Lea said the body will be sent to the Medical Examiner's office, "where hopefully efforts can be made to identify the body, as well as a cause of death."
