Dalton police arrested two men Sunday after they and neighbors described tit for tat gun play.

According to a news release, Quentrell Patrick Shropshire and Jonathan Aaron Sutton have been fighting since at least Dec. 11. On that date, Sutton told investigators, Shropshire was visiting his house in the 800 block of Beirut Place. It's not clear exactly how this happened, but Sutton said Shropshire took his gun and beat him with it.

When Sutton's girlfriend woke up and came outside, according to the release, Shropshire beat her with the gun as well. He then took their 2014 Hyundai Elantra, which police later found abandoned two days later. When officers arrived, they said they found Sutton and his girlfriend bloody.

On Sunday afternoon, officers responded to another call, this time in the area of Elm Street and Matilda Street. Witnesses told police that Sutton got out of a Kia Soul and chased a man, later identified as Shropshire.

Both men were then arrested. Police charged Shropshire with armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault and one count of aggravated battery and false imprisonment.

Sutton, meanwhile, is charged with aggravated assault, reckless conduct, discharging a firearm near a public street, discharging a firearm on the property of another, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Sutton did not hit Shropshire, according to Dalton police.
