Larry Wayne ReidA man convicted in a 2013 drug store robbery was sentenced this month to almost 21 years in prison and fined $100,000 for his part in the crime.
Larry Wayne Reid was among three people charged in the robbery of Parker's Drug Store in the Peachtree community of Murphy, N.C., according to a statement from Sheriff Derrick Palmer.
Cherokee County Superior Court Judge William H. Coward sentenced Reid to about 21 years in a plea agreement. Reid was sentenced to 120 months on count one of the indictment and fined $100,000 for trafficking opiates; 106 months on one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon (to begin at the expiration of the sentence on count one); and 27 months for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (to begin at the expiration of count two's sentence).
Reid was already serving a sentence for violating the sex offender registry law and his new sentences will begin at the conclusion of that sentence, Palmer said.
Reid was accused in an investigation by the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office that identified Reid, Elizabeth Donaldson and Samantha Redford as suspects in the case. Donaldson and Redford have already been sentenced.
On Jan. 30, 2013, authorities responded to a call about an armed robbery at Parker's Drug Store on U.S. Highway 64 East in the Peachtree community.
After the suspect robbed the store, he left through the back door with an undisclosed amount of cash and a large amount of narcotics, particularly Oxycontin.
As the investigation continued, Reid was found to have "a trafficking level of Oxycontin" in his possession.
Reid also led law enforcement on a high-speed chase, Palmer said.
"Excellent work by all concerned, which includes our deputies, investigators and our [assistant district attorney] John Hindsman," Palmer said in the statement. "Because of their hard work Mr. Reid will have a significant amount of time to reflect on the dangerous aspects of his crime spree. We can only make a guess as to what Reid's motives were."
