Crews are still working to fix a 12-inch gasoline pipeline owned by Colonial Pipeline Company which sprung a leak near Shoal Creek earlier this week.

Workers are draining, removing and replacing the affected portion of the line and are proceeding cautiously due to the rough terrain and proximity of the line to Shoal Creek, according to a news release from Colonial.

On Saturday, Chattanooga Fire Department assistant chief Danny Hague described it as a "very small" leak of gasoline.

The creek has been temporarily diverted during the repair and forecasted rain on Wednesday may further hamper progress. Still, Colonial is projecting that the line will be restarted by the end of the week.

Local, state and federal authorities, including the EPA, are providing oversight and assistance with the operation and Colonial is monitoring the air as well as the water in Shoal Creek and the Tennessee River.

Colonial has also activated a website which may be accessed through the front page of the company's main website, www.colpipe.com.
