Local authorities are warning the public about another rash of phone and message scams throughout the community from individuals claiming to be employees of law enforcement agencies or Hamilton County government.

The scammers typically contact potential victims to say the targeted individual has missed jury duty or failed to pay bond fees, according to a news release from the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

The caller then says that unless the victim calls a number and sends money via a money order, warrants will be issued for the victim's arrest or a heavy fine will be imposed.

Law enforcement officials encourage anyone who is similarly contacted by phone to never send money over the phone without verifying the agency's legitimacy.

All Hamilton County Government offices and the HCSO communicate by mail and will never solicit funds over the phone, nor will the IRS.

For more information on commercial scams, residents are encouraged to contact the local Better Business Bureau.
