The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an autopsy on a 19-month-old child who died at his home Monday.
Sheriff Scott Chitwood said officers were called Monday to a report of a child not breathing on Latonia Drive in Whitfield County.
When officers got there the child was dead. The mother, Tiffany Gibson, said the boy had had a fever the previous night. She said she checked him at 5 a.m., and then at 2 p.m., when she found him unresponsive in his crib.
Chitwood said investigators and evidence technicians were called to the home, and that the child's body was taken to the GBI Crime Lab as part of the ongoing investigation.
