A woman was arrested on attempted murder and theft charges today in East Brainerd, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to a shots fired call about 5:45 this morning at the 2400 block of Maplewood Drive, according to a news release.

Robert Brown told deputies he was in his house when he saw a white woman in dark clothing in his car in the driveway. According to Brown's statement, he went outside and chased her after she fled from his vehicle and ran across the street. She then pulled out a firearm and shot at him, according to Brown.

Brown said he continued to chase her and she fired another shot at him. The female then threw the firearm down in a neighbor's yard and continued to run away.

Deputies located and detained the woman a few blocks from the residence near the 8500 block of Standifer Gap Road. They identified her as Morgan Shoemaker, 27, and found several bags of property on her person. She told deputies that she was trying to get away from a man that had shot at her.

Brown identified Shoemaker as the woman who had been in his vehicle and shot at him.

Upon further investigation, deputies found that other neighbors in the area had their vehicles broken into and that several items had been stolen, including at least one firearm. Neighbors were able to identify several items belonging to them in the property recovered from Shoemaker.

Shoemaker has been charged with a count of attempted first-degree murder, a count of reckless endangerment, a count of burglary, a count of theft and count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Shoemaker also faces additional counts of burglary of an automobile and a count of theft from another incident that occurred down the street.

More charges may be pending as additional thefts are reported and investigated.
