The man who fatally shot a fugitive at the Bradley County landfill in September has been indicted on a charge of first-degree murder.

Mark Treuchet, 54, turned himself in to a special agent from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and was booked into the Bradley County Jail, according to a TBI news release. He is being held without bond.

The Bradley County grand jury on Wednesday indicted Treuchet for his role in the shooting death of 24-year-old Jeremy Headley, who fled from police in the hours before his death.

Headley and Daniel Warren, 32, led law enforcement on a three-county vehicle chase that day before a Hamilton County Sheriff's Office patrol unit stopped them and arrested Warren.

Headley fled and was later shot by Treuchet at the landfill at 282 Natures Trail, west of Cleveland. Local authorities asked the TBI to investigate.

The TBI news release said Treuchet lives in Columbiana, Ala. His former attorney, Jimmy Logan, said Treuchet was working at the landfill as a contractor when the shooting occurred.

Headley was originally from Clanton, Ala., just 25 miles from Columbiana, but it is unclear if the two men knew each other before the shooting.

Attempts to reach 10th Judicial District Attorney Steve Crump and Headley's father, Nolan Headley, were unsuccessful Sunday.

Nolan Headley told local media after the shooting that investigators found 11 dollars in cash, a necklace and a cigarette lighter on his son's body, but no gun.

Crump responded to a comment on his Facebook page about Treuchet by saying, "I cannot comment on the evidence in the case, but I believe the grand jury got it absolutely right."

The police pursuit of Headley began in Meigs County, crossed into Hamilton County and ended in Bradley County, with the sheriff's offices from each county becoming involved.

Newspaper archives show Warren was charged with felony reckless endangerment by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office and had outstanding charges in Meigs and possibly Bradley counties. He also had a warrant for desertion from the U.S. Armed Forces.

Logan questioned why Treuchet is being held without bond since he turned himself in to authorities. His arraignment is set for today.
