A Brainerd man who called police on Jan. 10 to report he and his wife were high on methamphetamine was arrested again Sunday and charged with aggravated assault.

Police believe Charles Hill, 32, attacked his wife, Katie White, 25, after she stayed out all night and came home late, according to his affidavit.

White told police her husband kicked her in the back, told her he was going to kill her, put his hands around her neck and choked her. Officers noted she had some marks on her neck that were "consistent with being strangled," according to the affidavit.

Hill denied hitting or choking his wife, and said instead that the pair got into an argument and he threw her phone across the room because he was mad.

Hill faces one count of aggravated assault and was booked into the Hamilton County Jail.

The Times Free Press does not typically identify victims of domestic violence, but White was previously identified by name earlier this month, when both she and Hill were arrested after telling police they were hallucinating.

Both were charged with child abuse after Hill told police they'd used methamphetamine that night. Both appeared to be unable to care for their 4-year-old son, were irrational and had trouble putting together sentences, according to a police report.

Both White and Hill pleaded guilty to child abuse and neglect on Jan. 17 and were ordered not to have any contact with their son until they complete drug counseling. The pair was also sentenced to house arrest for 11 months and 29 days.

Hill is scheduled to appear in court on the aggravated assault charge on Feb. 1.

He has a lengthy criminal history that includes a conviction for voluntary manslaughter in 2009. Hill was sentenced to four years in prison after he admitting to stabbing a man to death during a fight in East Ridge.

White also has a criminal history dating back to at least 2008 in Hamilton County, including charges for theft, passing worthless checks and vandalism.
