Outgoing University of Tennessee Chancellor Jimmy Cheek said the school's "commitment to diversity, inclusion and civility remains as strong as ever" in light of the recent immigration orders by President Donald Trump.

"We are committed to protecting the rights and opportunities extended to all members of our academic community, and we will continue to recruit, retain, and support faculty, staff, and students from around the world," Cheek wrote in an open letter to the campus Monday.

Cheek said the university's Center for International Education has been working to understand the implications of Trump's executive orders. Over the weekend, CIE staff worked with students, faculty and staff who hold visas from the seven countries.
