Fire officials have determined a basement blaze caused $3,000 of damage to an Ooltewah area home this afternoon.
Hamilton County Emergency Services announced a woman reported the fire at her 4100 block E. Freemond Circle residence at 12:52 p.m. Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department responded to the incident. There were no injuries, but Hamilton County EMS attended the scene for potential injuries.
"Firefighters worked quickly to contained the fire to the basement area," agency spokeswoman Amy Maxwell said.
Extremely hot temperatures prompted the volunteer fire department to make a request for mutual aid, which brought the Catoosa County Fire Department and Chattanooga-Hamilton County Rescue to the scene. Highway 58 Volunteer Fire Department provided coverage for additional calls while the Tri-Community volunteers worked the blaze.
The Tri-Community VFD Fire Marshall's Office is investigating the fire. The cause has not been determined.
The American Red Cross was called to assist the homeowner with immediate needs.
