UPDATE: Woman pleads guilty in reckless conduct, DUI case

Fort Oglethorpe police arrested a woman over the weekend on charges that she drove drunk, tried to run over an officer, led another officer on a chase, crashed her car and tried to run away, leaving her child in the back seat.

Carol Yvonne Green, of Chattanooga, was charged Saturday with driving under the influence; two counts of endangering children; three counts of reckless conduct, fleeing or attempting to elude; three counts of false imprisonment; obstructing or hindering law enforcement; simple assault; and speeding.

According to an incident report, Officer James Davis pulled her over around 10 p.m. Saturday after watching her Mitsubishi leave a gas station at Dietz and Cloud Springs roads, heading toward oncoming traffic.

He said Green sped up at first, only to slam on her brakes, causing her vehicle to slide. Davis asked for her license. She said she didn't have one. When he ran her name, a dispatcher told Davis that Green's license was suspended.

Davis told Green about the problem. Green yelled at Davis, according to the report, telling him that she couldn't go to jail. Her breath smelled like alcohol, he said. He told her to get out of the car. He said she refused. The passenger, Tia Russell, also told Green to get out, according to the report.

Two children sat in the back seat, one belonging to Green and the other to Russell. Davis said he reached inside the vehicle, trying to turn the car off and take the keys from the ignition. Green then put the car in drive, accelerated and whipped the vehicle to her left, Davis wrote, "in what appeared to be an attempt to run me over."

Green drove down Sandra Drive, according to the report, then south down Dietz Road. Fort Oglethorpe Lt. John McGrath spotted the car and chased Green south on Burning Bush Road. Near Overlook Drive, Green crashed off the road, according to the report.

Davis said Green got out of the car and tried to run for the woods, but he "brought Offender Green to the Ground." Paramedics responded to the scene, taking Russell and the children to Cornerstone Medical Center. Russell told investigators that she begged Green to stop several times during the chase.

A Department of Family and Children's Services caseworker came to the hospital and took Green's child.
