Authorities in DeKalb County, Ala., are investigating the discovery of a body Tuesday in a field in the Grove Oak community about 15 miles west of Fort Payne.
Sheriff Jimmy Harris said in a statement that the discovery came after a call from a farmer on County Road 820 about a vehicle that he found in a field.
"When deputies arrived they found a body close to the vehicle, at which time an investigation was started," Harris said.
The body has not yet been positively identified, officials said.
Harris said officials with Jacksonville State University Center for Applied Forensics helped process the scene. Chief Deputy Michael Edmondson thanked Jacksonville State University Center officials for their help in the case.
The body was sent to the Department of Forensics Science in Montgomery for an autopsy, Harris said.
This is still an ongoing investigation and no further information will be released at this time, Harris said.
