Three Hamilton County teachers are among 50 educators statewide chosen for the 2017-18 class of the Tennessee Educator Fellowship.

The State Collaborative on Reforming Education (SCORE) runs the yearlong program to equip educators to advocate for their students and profession.

The teachers are Jessica Hubbuch, a science teacher at The Howard School; Carrie Bishop, an eighth-grade English teacher at Hixson Middle School; and Ashley Cox, a ninth-grade English teacher at The Howard School.

Jamie Woodson, executive chairman and CEO of SCORE, said the program's fellows bring incredible talent to the table, including expertise inside the classroom, diverse perspectives and relentless focus on students and their academic needs.

"These traits prove invaluable to state conversations on raising student achievement in Tennessee, as our fellows work both inside and outside of the classroom to prepare all students for success after high school," Woodson said in a statement.

This is the fourth year of Educator Fellows, and the newest class has teaching experience ranging from three years in the classroom to almost 50. The educators include classroom teachers, counselors and librarians.

Hubbuch, Bishop and Cox have additionally participated in a variety of local fellowships and programs through the Public Education Foundation.

The foundation is also accepting applications for teachers across the tri-state region interested in participating in its STEM Teaching Fellows program.

The fellowship gives teachers opportunities to learn instructional practices in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math careers to prepare their students for an evolving job market.

Michael Stone, PEF's director of innovative learning, said past STEM Teacher Fellows shine as leaders in their schools and community.

"STEM Fellows not only serve as instructional leaders, embracing innovative best practices in the classroom, but they also serve as teacher leaders who are skilled liaisons throughout the entire STEM ecosystem."

Also announced Thursday, Keri Randolph, director of innovation for Hamilton County Schools, received the Tennessee STEM Innovator Award.

Randolph won for her success leading STEM programs within Hamilton County Schools and throughout the Southeast Tennessee region, according to a statement from the Tennessee STEM Innovation Network.

Randolph spent 10 years teaching science in North Carolina before directing STEM and teacher leadership initiatives at PEF.

During Randolph's two years working for Hamilton County Schools, she has been involved in a variety of projects supporting teachers and student success.

She is leaving the district this fall to participate in the Harvard Graduate School of Education Doctorate of Education Leadership program.
