Two killed in single-car crash Thursday night in Fort Payne

Fort Payne, Ala., police are continuing to investigate a two-fatality crash that happened late Thursday night.

Gage LaMichael Howard, 22, and Kelsey Ashton Smith, 24, both of Fort Payne, were pronounced dead at the scene where the 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe they were in crashed into a tree in the 1500 block of Godfrey Avenue South about 11:45 p.m. CDT Thursday, Fort Payne Police Chief Randy Bynum said in a statement.

Bynum said the driver, Gage, lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree, coming to rest in the yard of a private residence.
