Strong storms knock down trees, wires across Chattanooga region

Severe weather wreaked a little havoc in Chattanooga and the surrounding region this evening.

As the storm swept through the area, downed wire reports steadily streamed in across Hamilton County 911 webpage between 8:20 p.m. and 9 p.m., when troubles began for eastern Bradley County.

In Sale Creek, a downed tree contributed to a motor vehicle accident with injuries, according to 911 dispatcher radio traffic.

EPB could not be reached for comment, but the utility's outage page showed minimal outages scattered throughout Hamilton County like red polka dots. Highway 58 proved the exception, racking up moderate outages.

Before 9 p.m., Volunteer Energy Cooperative reported fewer than 100 outages. That number leaped up to 330 before 9:30 p.m, with nearly 250 Bradley County customers reporting outages. VEC also reported 71 Polk County customers lost power.

Around 140 Cleveland Utilities customers lost power in Cleveland's historic district.

North Georgia also experienced a mix of light and heavy outages.

In Varnell, 400 North Georgia Electric Membership Corporation lost power, while another 250 lost power in Calhoun.
