Survey seeks input on Chattanooga police chief search

For those with thoughts about who should take over the reins once Chattanooga Police Chief Fred Fletcher retires in July, now is the time to speak up.

The City of Chattanooga has published an online survey created by the Citizen Safety Coalition, extending an opportunity to citizens to help inform the criteria used to vet candidates.

The survey asks participants to rank the priorities they believe the new chief should focus on, as well as the personal qualities he or she should exhibit. Citizens also can write in questions they would like the six-person search committee to ask applicants.

All citizens are encouraged to provide feedback by filling out and sharing the form at connect.chattanooga.gov/safe/chief.

The search committee will make a recommendation of no more than three applicants to Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke. The Chattanooga City Council will vote to ratify his choice.

Berke said a week ago the selection committee is confident all applicant screening will take place before Fletcher's retirement on July 6.
