Former Pilot Flying J President Mark Hazelwood is accusing his high-profile attorney of botching his trial and now wants to bring on board his defense team a New York law firm staffed with former federal prosecutors and a bank robber turned lawyer and professor.

Hazelwood was convicted in February by a jury in U.S. District Court in Chattanooga of both conspiring with his subordinates to rip off trucking firms of promised discounts on diesel fuel and pushing to expand the fraud.

Heading up his defense for that trial, which spanned four months, was Texas attorney Rusty Hardin and his law firm, which is known nationwide for its stable of celebrity clients and big wins in both trials and appeals.
