UPDATE: Man suffers extensive third-degree burns in vehicle fire

UPDATE: The 72-year-old man burned in the vehicle fire has died, according to a release from the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

ORIGINAL STORY: A man was transported to Erlanger hospital early Saturday morning after receiving third-degree burns over 50 percent of his body in a vehicle fire.

Emergency responders received a 911 call at 2:30 a.m. Saturday reporting a vehicle fire and endangerment of a neighboring structure in the 2800 block of Suck Creek Road, according to a news release from the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

Upon arriving on the scene, Chattanooga Fire Department firefighters found a man suffering from severe burns. They also worked quickly to extinguish the car and a porch fire, the release states. Damages are unknown at this time.

Hamilton County EMS transported the man with third degree burns on his lower body to Erlanger. The cause of the fire is undetermined and will be under investigation by Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, the release states.
