ATLANTA (AP) - Atlanta city officials say they're preparing to conduct a count of the city's homeless population.
City officials said in a statement that the Homeless Point-in-Time Count will be conducted between Jan. 22 and 24. Officials say while counting the number of people living on the streets, volunteers will also administer surveys to get a better idea of the needs of the city's homeless population.
Officials say about 4,800 were sleeping in emergency shelters, transitional housing and on the streets during the last survey.
The city is asking for volunteers to work three shifts on Jan. 22 and 23. Volunteers will also be needed to collect surveys from service locations between Jan. 23 and Jan. 28.
