NYC scrutinizing Trump campaign's use of Trump Tower atrium

NEW YORK (AP) - Donald Trump's frequent campaign events in Trump Tower are attracting scrutiny from New York City officials, who want to know whether he is abiding by rules requiring the building's atrium to be open to the public.

Trump got the city's permission to make the skyscraper bigger when he was planning it in return for a promise to make its atrium a public space.

A Department of Buildings spokesman says inspectors are examining whether people were barred from the space Tuesday for a Trump news conference.

Trump executive Michael Cohen insists the atrium remained open.

An Associated Press reporter present for the event didn't observe any members of the public allowed in.

Officials say the area can be closed for private use only if the building owner is granted prior approval.
