A custom-made wheelchair has been donated to a former 10-year Wilson County sheriff's deputy who is unable to work because of paralysis to his arms and legs after a stroke.
Earl Dyer received the wheelchair Tuesday from Permobil in Wilson County. Permobil makes custom-made wheelchairs and presented Dyer with one of its newer models.
"It will take a person from a seated position to a standing position, which has medical and social benefits," Permobil's Rick Haynes said. "And it can let them do more things at home. It's one more avenue of independence to give someone."
