NASHVILLE -- More than 20 Southeast Tennessee communities have been awarded a share of $9.2 million in energy conservation grants aimed at upgrading government buildings and facilities.
Gov. Phil Bredesen and Economic and Community Development Commissioner Matt Kisber on Wednesday announced the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants, which are funded from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
The grants will pay for a variety of projects from LED traffic signals and energy-efficient heating and cooling to installation of solar panels on government buildings.
* Athens: $100,000 for traffic signal replacement
* Bledsoe County: $100,000 for lighting, HVAC and energy management system retrofits at schools
* Bradley County: $87,530 for HVAC and insulation retrofits at courthouse annex
* Calhoun: $40,000 for lighting, HVAC and insulation retrofits at City Hall
* Crossville: $100,000 for lighting, HVAC and insulation retrofits at six city buildings
* Ducktown: $100,000 for small-scale solar installation on city property
* Dunlap: $100,000 for lighting and pump retrofits at six city buildings
* East Ridge: $99,077.50 for lighting and HVAC retrofits at five city buildings and traffic signal replacement
* Etowah: $100,000 for HVAC and pump retrofits at library and pump stations
* Gruetli-Laager: $17,500 to develop a community energy plan and to install lighting, HVAC and door retrofits at City Hall
* Grundy County: $100,000 for lighting and HVAC retrofits at four county buildings
* Jasper: $100,000 for HVAC and pump retrofits at City Hall and pump stations
* McMinn County: $100,000 for lighting and HVAC retrofits at courthouse annex
* Niota: $96,000 for lighting, HVAC and insulation retrofits at municipal building
* Meigs County: $100,000 to develop a community energy plan and install HVAC roof and insulation retrofits at jail
* Monroe County: $100,000 for HVAC retrofits at courthouse and annex
* Pikeville: $100,000 for street light replacement and biofuels development
* Polk County: $100,000 for lighting and HVAC retrofits at county courthouse
* Red Bank: $100,000 for lighting, HVAC and insulation retrofits at City Hall
* Sequatchie County: $100,000 for HVAC retrofits at schools courthouse and library
* Signal Mountain: $100,000 for HVAC and water heater retrofits at historic school building
* Soddy-Daisy: $100,000 for lighting and HVAC retrofits at three city buildings
* Tracy City: $100,000 for lighting, HVAC, window, roof and insulation retrofits at five city buildings
* Whitwell: $100,000 for traffic signal replacement and pump retrofits at water plant.
