Local physician disciplined by state

A Chattanooga physician has been disciplined by the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners, according to a Monday release from the state health department.

The Tennessee Department of Health's disciplinary action report said family medicine specialist Dr. Kent A. Grotefendt failed to document treatment to justify dosages of controlled substances. In July his license was placed on probation for five years and he was assessed a $10,000 civil penalty. His practice will be monitored with monthly reviews for the first year of his probation, then quarterly reviews for the remaining time, the release stated.

According to the state health department's consent order, Grotefendt treated 13 patients between 2004 and 2006 whose medical histories did not contain adequate information to justify the dosages of controlled substances prescribed. The physician also has completed a course in medical record keeping, according to the order.

La Paz to host open house

La Paz Chattanooga will host an open house from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at its new office, 1402 Bailey Ave.

The move, made possible by a grant from the Lyndhurst Foundation, will allow La Paz to grow in capacity and client services, as well as to expand its reach among Hispanics, a news release states.

"We are so extremely glad to be in our new space," said Stacy Johnson, executive director for La Paz. "Our move represents a growth not only for our organization, but for the community as a whole. Our clients are already getting used to the new place and feel a sense of pride and ownership."

La Paz representatives will be at the new office during the open house and invite the public to stop by for light refreshments and a tour.

La Paz Chattanooga, created in 2004, seeks to empower and engage Chattanooga's Latino population through advocacy, education and inclusion, the news release said.
