Scenic City sloshing toward 'Soggy City'

Grab the galoshes, umbrella and rain jacket, because Chattanooga is in for a wealth of wet weather.

WTVC NewsChannel 9 chief meteorologist David Glenn said the area could get as much as 1.5 inches of rain by Saturday. It should begin to dwindle tonight, but there's a chance of scattered flurries or snow showers Saturday, he said.

Temperatures should hold steady in the lower 40s today, and will creep down to the mid-30s by tonight, said David Hotz, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Morristown, Tenn. Mr. Hotz also said there is a possibility for the rain to transition into snow or snow showers after midnight tonight, but no measurable accumulation is expected.

"Any accumulation would be very spotty, very light in nature," Mr. Glenn said.

North Georgia residents can expect a similar situation, with rain beginning to subside tonight and highs in the upper 40s on Saturday, said Rob Handel, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, Ga.

Though temperatures in most of the Tennnessee Valley will be above freezing Saturday, Mr. Glenn warned that some of the higher elevations may drop below freezing, causing frozen patches on roads.

"As far as for people traveling, be careful because there may be a freezing spot," he said.
