'Thousands of pills' seized in area raid

Four people are in custody following police searches at five locations in Walker and Catoosa counties.

Gerald Pritchett, of Rossville, and Velma Jeanette Davis, of Dunlap, Tenn., were arrested Wednesday and lodged in the Catoosa County Jail, according to a news release from the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force.

They are facing state drug charges in connection with a six-month operation to uncover prescription pill drug diversion schemes, according to the news release.

Officials did not release the names of two other people who were arrested on federal charges.

Task Force Cmdr. Larry Black said agents seized $6,000 in cash, two vehicles, a stolen motorcycle and a stolen four-wheeler in the searches.

Police went to three locations in Walker County and two in Catoosa County, he said.

The investigation centered around illegally distributed and trafficked prescription pills, Cmdr. Black said, and police seized "thousands of pills" in the searches.

Agents also found methamphetamine and marijuana during the operation, which continues.

Police expect it to result in more arrests.

The commander pointed to teen deaths in the counties from mixing drugs such as Oxycodone, Roxicodone and Xanax as indicators of prescription drug abuse dangers.

Sheriff's personnel in Walker, Catoosa and Dade counties participated in the operation, along with Georgia State Patrol and Georgia State Probation personnel.

No one in those agencies responded Wednesday to calls for comment.
