Lightning strike burns man

A man suffered minor burn injuries to the legs and feet after a lightning strike on Flat Top Mountain, according to Amy E. Maxwell, public information officer for Hamilton County Emergency Services.

At 7 p.m., 9-1-1 reveived a call regarding a lightning strike to a 61-year-old man living at 1800 Ledford Road on Flat Top Mountain, Ms. Maxwell said. A family member said lightning struck the wet ground and the electical current traveled to the metal chair the man was sitting on, Ms. Maxwell said. Hamilton County EMS responded and took the patient to Erlanger hospital.

During these unstable summer storms, people need to always be aware of the surroundings and keep informed about the weather, Ms. Maxwell said.
