CALHOUN, Ga. -- Two Southern writers are the featured guests at the first Northwest Georgia Valley Writers Conference.

Rosemary Daniell, author of "Secrets of the Zona Rosa," and Terry Kay, author of "To Dance with the White Dog," head the line-up for the conference, which is set for March 20 at the Harris Arts Center in Calhoun.

Ms. Daniell and Mr. Kay will lead workshops and participate in panel discussions, along with about a dozen other writers.

"With this activity, I've coordinated opportunities for authors and aspiring writers and also for people interested in the literary world," said Gray Bridges, event coordinator at Harris Arts Center. "At the start of the day and at the end of the day, I've set up meet-and-greet and book-signing segments to promote our local authors."

A $30 fee covers two 90-minute writing workshops with Mr. Kay and Ms. Daniell, participation in two of four other workshops with experienced authors and writing coaches and a panel discussion on publishing.

At 4:45 p.m., a panel discussion on "Living the Writer's Life" is being moderated by Tony Burton from Wolfmont Press in Ranger, Ga. Admission is $5.

There is no charge for the authors' meet-and-greet, set for 5:45 p.m.

"This opens a door for a perfect opportunity to support local authors and establish contacts within the writing world," said Donna Sundblad, author of "Beyond the Fifth Gate."

Writers are encouraged to preregister, Ms. Bridges said.
