SPRING CITY, Tenn. - The Spring City Parks and Recreation Commission and the Friends of the Parks have some old-fashioned fun planned in the next few weeks.

The city will hold its first Spring City Scavenger Hunt on Saturday, said Liz Baldassarro of the Parks and Recreation Commission.

"We are having fun here in Spring City," said Lee Booker, a member of the Parks and Recreation Commission. "We hope we have many detectives in the area to join us for a day filled with puzzle-solving mysteries."

The scavenger hunt will include more than 100 questions and activities related to Spring City and surrounding communities.

The hunt will range over most of the city, using roads and official trails to access particular areas. Some questions may require Internet research to answer. Teams must have a digital camera with a flash memory card, because it is illegal to remove the items from the city.

"A team can consist of as many people as you like," Mr. Booker said, as long as they fit safely in a vehicle. Drivers must be at least 18 and have proof of insurance. Youths under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

The rescheduled Trash to Treasures Community Yard Sale is set for May 14-15 at Spring City Veterans Park.

"It's time to clean out your closets, garages and attics and bring all your treasures down to the park for the two-day yard sale," Ms. Baldassarro said.

Clothing, lawn equipment, toys, books, glassware, art and crafts or just about anything other than weapons, food or alcohol can be sold, she said.

Funds raised from the $20 fee will go to the park fund for improvements, she said.

"Remember, one man's trash is another man's treasure," she said. "The yard sale had over 40 yard sellers last year, and we are looking for it to be bigger this year."
