Bostick appeals murder sentence

Robert Earl Bostick, who is serving a 22-year sentence for second-degree murder in the 2005 beating death of a 71-year-old man, has filed a post conviction petition and wants a new trial.

In the filing, Bostick says his confession was coerced and that his counsel was ineffective. Bostick was 17 years old when police said he killed Robert Wise over a racial slur, records show.

He initially was charged along with 15-year-old Jamol Wynn.

"His guilty plea was involuntary and unintelligent," the motion states.

Bostick's appointed attorney, Kevin Loper, said he plans to amend Bostick's petition by Dec. 3. Prosecutors are waiting to file a response until the petition is changed.
