UT down to final presidential candidates

KNOXVILLE - The Presidential Search Committee has decided to ask five candidates to interview on campus next week to be the next University of Tennessee system president.

They include two unanimous candidates: Joe DiPietro, chancellor of the Institute of Agriculture, and Brian Noland, chancellor of West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission.

The others are state Rep. Craig Fitzhugh, D-Ripley; Robert McGrath, a consultant for Battelle Memorial Institute; and Jerry Askew, a senior vice president for external affairs at Mercy Health Partners.

Earlier today, the group pared the list down to 10 candidates. The committee discussed the 10 candidates this morning after an advisory council narrowed down a list of 71 to 15 Wednesday.
