Record rainfall Friday night and early Saturday left area rivers swelling above flood stage during the weekend, according to the National Weather Service at Morristown, Tenn.
The area was pummeled with a little more than 3 inches of rain Friday, beating the area's 1994 April 15 record of 2.73 inches. Some areas were left without power.
Saturday's rain barely amounted to a tenth of an inch, but the rivers are still channeling the effects of the week's earlier storms, said Derek Eisentrout, National Weather Service representative.
On Saturday evening, flood warnings were issued for the Sequatchie River near Whitwell, Tenn. Forecasters expected the river to rise slightly above flood stage of 14 feet Saturday night, affecting Bledsoe, Sequatchie and Marion counties.
Minor flooding also was predicted around South Chickamauga Creek, which reached 18.5 feet Saturday night.
But Eisentrout said most waters would subside by early today.
In North Georgia, the Conasauga River is expeto rise to flood stage by this afternoon, affecting Gordon, Murray and Whitfield counties.
By early Monday morning, Eisentrout said the Conasauga's waters should fall back below flood stage.
