A man is being treated for extensive injuries after falling about 75 feet from Benton Falls on Saturday morning, according to Polk County dispatchers.

Other visitors to the falls called rescue crews around 11:30 a.m., saying the hiker had been standing on a rock near the falls' edge before he tumbled over.

Dispatchers said the man hit rocks below and suffered major trauma, but that he was likely to survive his injuries.

The man's name and current medical condition were not released Sunday evening.

People have fallen before from Benton Falls, one dispatcher said. He noted that several of those falls have been fatal.
