A Hamilton County jailer was arrested along with her two daughters Thursday after being accused of beating up her grandson's mother.
Cpl. Arnetta Jones-Eady, 51, went to the woman's residence with her two daughters, Lanetta Hudson, 30, and LeAnn Jones, 27, to confront her, according to a Chattanooga police arrest report.
Jones-Eady posted a $1,000 bond on an aggravated assault charge. Her next court date is slated for Aug. 9 before General Sessions Judge David Bales.
Hudson and Jones were each charged with a single count of assault. Each posted a $500 bond and both face an Aug. 9 court date.
Jones-Eady declined to comment when contacted. Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Hammond also declined to comment.
"The sheriff regrets instances such as these happen, but Hamilton County Sheriff's Office is committed to performing a thorough internal affairs investigation," spokeswoman Janice Atkinson said.
The fracas happened after the 21-year-old mother went to get Jones-Eady's grandson from day care but discovered that Jones-Eady's son already had picked up the child, the report said. The child's mother, who has custody, called police to report the father.
After Jones-Eady and her daughters heard the incident had been reported to authorities, they went to the woman's Poplar Street apartment and waited for her, the report said.
Jones-Eady, who was still wearing her sheriff's office uniform and gun belt, pushed the woman, knocking her down, the report said. Then Jones-Eady held her down while Hudson and Jones punched her, the report said.
The woman was able to get up and make it to her apartment door, but Jones-Eady caught her against the door and Hudson and Jones continued punching her, according to the report.
Jones-Eady and her daughters left after hearing sirens, the report said. She returned to work at the jail, but went back to the mother's apartment after police contacted her, according to a statement from Chattanooga police.
Jones-Eady is the third Hamilton County corrections deputy to be arrested on charges this year.
Cpl. Jerry Melbert, charged with sexual battery and assault, is on paid leave until an Aug. 17 court hearing. He is accused of placing his finger in the cleavage of a woman on the dance floor at The Palms, 6925 Shallowford Road, a couple of weeks ago.
Deputy Lori Pickett was charged in February with domestic assault after she reportedly struck her husband, Hamilton County Courts Officer Jim Pickett, several times outside Juvenile Court. The incident occurred after Pickett heard that her husband allegedly was having an affair. She was placed on desk duty pending an Oct. 4 court date. Her case will be dismissed upon good behavior, according to court records.
