2 in motorcycle accident airlifted

A couple were airlifted to Erlanger hospital Sunday evening after a serious motorcycle accident off East Valley Road in Sequatchie County.

Tennessee Highway Patrol authorities didn't have any further details at press time.

The crash was the second in the area over the weekend. On Saturday, a Dunlap woman died on state Highway 111, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Jennifer Benoit, a certified nurse assistant in Dunlap, Tenn., was traveling on a wet road about 3:30 p.m. when she lost control of her car and crashed, the THP dispatcher said. She wasn't wearing a seat belt.

Teen playing with gun shot

A Red Bank teen is in stable condition after he was shot in the face while playing with a gun outside his home early Sunday.

But police still are searching for the teenager who pulled the trigger, Red Bank Sgt. Dan Knight said.

Matthew Peckenpaugh, 15, was taken to Erlanger about 2:45 a.m. Sunday, Knight said.

Matthew and several of his friends were playing with the revolver outside his Lyndon Avenue home when the teen who brought the gun to the house fired the weapon, Knight said.

"It wasn't an accident ... it was recklessness," Knight said.

With a bloody face, Matthew went inside his home, where his grandfather called an ambulance, he said.

Police are looking for the teen, who wasn't named because he's a juvenile, and the gun, Knight said.
